Trans or TC meltdown?

Trans or TC meltdown?
Wife was driving her 04 with 118,500 this morning. Heard a noise that was not coming from the engine. To make a long story short the car won't move in gear. It made a grinding noise going into drive and into reverse now no noise at all. I have done the TC lube change annually and the tranny fluid change annually. Got the car in the driveway and jacked up each side. Turned the front wheels and the back wheels turned on the respective side. No grinding noises. Changed the TC fluid. Plenty of fluid. Typical dirty. So now I'm thinking tranny. Could there be a linkage problem or am I dropping the assembly and opening the tranny up?

Honestly, sounds more like the tranny to me. Have you had a chance to crawl under it yet and really check everything? Maybe you got lucky and blew out a tranny line somewhere or broke something in the linkage. If those are all fine, I'd drop the tranny pan and look for any metal shavings, snap rings, or any metal in general. Let us know what you find.

Did you put the car in neutral and try moving the driveshaft? Sounds like what happened to my wife's car when the tc locked up the rear wheels -- as soon as I removed the driveshaft I drove it around as front wheel drive--I could not budge the output flange of the tc--gears were sheared and the bearings blew apart--toast..
