Transfer case and diff fluid change
Does anyone know of a decent priced place, or is anyone capable of doing a diff and transfer case oil change on an 02 2.5 x in Canada around the GTA or anywhere within a hour of Toronto? I think my car needs one as when I am in second gear when i hit 2000-2500 rpm I notice a squeal or a howal coming from somewhere around the front of my car possibly in an area under around my cdplayer area. Also I notice a zzzzzzin type of noice from the rear of my car all the tiem when I drive. Kinda makes the same noise a remote controlled car makes when it drives. I hope it is not anythig serious. Can anyone shed some light onto these issues?
Dennis,
sorry I can't be of help but I was wondering if anyone knows of a decent independent shop in the NJ/NY area that can help me with a transmission flush, transfer case, and diff. fluid change?
thanks!

What about doing it yourself?
I am talking about transfer case, and diff. fluid change. I think somebody just posted a FAQ onhow they did it.
I wonder if there will be a follow-up about how everything worked out for those guys....

I thought about it, but I have no way og jacking the vehicle up other than the factory jack and I do nto have safety stands. Also I rather have someone with experience or atleast someone who knows what they are doign as if you fill up too much fluid in the transfer case you can blow your seals, which would put me in a worse situation. Also then I will have to buy the connector and tubing which isnt expensive, but its still a hassle. if someone has the stuff it makes more sense.
my thoughts exactly. I really don't have a jack, or stands to hold up the car......i know the parts are not that expensive but more of a hassle. Plus I just don't want to jeapordize my Jag with a stupid mistake. Therefore it makes more sense for me to have somebody do it for me.

the only jeopardy is not doing the simplest of maintenance due to fear....
This stuff is mechanics 101... over-fill wil not blow seals.. it will just leak oil out the vent.
Is there anything in life that you measure? surely you have made rice with a 2-1 ratio of water and rice? I mean billions of chinese do this every day, a Jag owner must be able to measure a little bit of oil?????
HAHAHAH.. this is mean to be humourous ... not malicious..

I guess it comes down to self confidence... I can work on other peoples cars and have no fear... then when I get back to mine I feel scared to touch it. Even with work... I can give people tonnes of investment advice and advice regarding rules and regulations in respects to investments and they make a killing... but when it comes to my own investments I feel lost... I know it sounds weird but I have always been like that.
bojangles i believe you are in London. Anyone else in the Northern NJ/ New York City area want to tackle this together? I really want to try this but need somebody with experience and or tools like a jackand stand? Anybody out there close to me?

hankycbr, I have not lived in your area for a long time but there were several places that rented garage space and tools for the DIY. Advanced Auto around here also rents tools but no space. Harborfreight has a hand pump that I have been using to fill trans and transfer case, well worth $8.00. They also have an excellent set of jack stands. Getting CD off ebay for service manual also worth $20 spent, so is the daily subscription on Jag tech pages to download everything you can point at.
I would help you out but I'm in oHIo, depressingly.

I found a Jiffy Lube in Markham (HWY#7 near Markham Rd). Lincoln (the Manager)will do transfer case drain and refill for $50, he even has a vacuum to suck out all the oil. We're working on the transmission drain and refill now.
Cheers
