Default Transfer Case Fluid for 2007 X-Type

Does anyone have an opinion on what type of oil should be used to fill a transfer case for the 2007 X-Type? I have seen that many people like the Redline 75W-140 for the pre 2004 T-cases with the viscous fluid, but I have not seen any opinion on the newer 2004+ T-cases with the lower viscosity fluids.
Any opinions are much appreciated.

I wasn't aware there was a difference in TC lube weights in later models....Anybody care to clarify?

I thought they all were using the synthetic 75w140..Anyway..Red line you can't go wrong or Royal Purple is what I used..

Agreed, I have not heard of a difference either. Get good quality synthetic stuff. It's cheaper to use good fluid than replace parts.

Thanks for the input. I had a new transfer case installed on my 2007 X-Type in November 2014. Last week, after 16 months and maybe 18,000 miles it started making an awful groaning noise. I have confirmed that the noise is coming from the T-case, and it sounds like it may be a bad bearing.

I was considering changing the fluid as a hail Mary play before replacing the T-case, but I am now leaning towards just replacing it with a salvaged unit.

The new case should not have failed so quickly. The car is driven fairly conservatively, but it is outside the 12 month warranty period for the new part.

If you don't mind posting where you get one I'd love to know. Mine is still good but I expect it to go and wouldn't mind a back-up. The best price I could find was $250 in a national search of Craigslist (search tempest). I would prefer to find something local and I am only about 30 minutes from West Chester across the Commodore Barry Bridge.

I doubt I will find a part locally, Lemons. The $250 T-case seems like a good price from what I have seen.

That was in Lexington, KY. I also found 2 for $300 in Kalamazoo, MI which I have family in and may grab one of those. Also, reach out to Dr. Dome on the forum. He lives north of philly. No clue what his prices are.

I was told by a jaguar dealer that the TC fluid is good for a life time and doesn't need to be changed. However the more I read these forums the more different messages I am getting.

Welcome to the club..We all were duped into this same BS campaign. Some of us changed the fluid sooner than later and saved the TC from self destruction. A lot of folks getting second hand X's and or high mileage ones were finding the TC either very low on lube or non existent and their TC was headed for the grave yard..there is only about 700ML of the lube in there to begin with..So I started changing mine at 20,000 miles and it looked like black molasses when I first changed it and was low.

There is about a million threads here about how to change it..Some folks made little valve adapters to be able to change it regularly..do a little searching..But definitely change it ASAP

PS..Rear Differential is also a need to do..

Default Wow shocking

How am I not surprised that when I went to service the Rear Dif and Transfer case both were BONE DRY!!! If not for these forums and members not posting these issues as they come up I am for sure would of been looking at a couple grand worth of catastrophic issues.

That is great that you saved your car!!! It really isn't too hard to change it out after you figure it out the first time. Absolutely a great forum, so much help and knowledge on here.

Used transfer cases can be problematic. Last month I had to replace my transfer case, and I got a used one for 795. They had removed the linkshaft from the case. After I put it in my car, I got transmission fluid leak due to damaged link shaft seals. Currently I am in process of replacing these seals. (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...2/#post1461525) you can follow my posts on the link. It is a major hassle to do this, but there is no alternative to it. These seals only cost $6 each, but it will take me couple of days to complete the job.

My choice for transfer case and differential in this new-to-me 2004 V6. Attempted to service both yesterday; what a PITA.
