Due to the design of the Jatco JF506E you will probably not be able to insert any tube there (I have a hard time inserting a 3mm wide thin metal strip, which I use as dip-stick). Also: As insufficient as opening the drain plug on that transmission is (I designed my own full drain procedure, rejecting the ridiculous 3 x drain & fill nonsense), playing "Maya, the bee" with a sucking-tube would suck even more (or in this case: less)...
i have my old x type still kicking around and the battery is out of it so just for fun i'll give it a try, my plan is still to do the 3x style, as long as i can get a decent amount from the top using the pump.
the pump will also be used in reverse to refill the oil, the in/out lines of the pump are small like 3/8" so it will fit down the fill tube easily.
i'll report back what i find
yorta2... i suspect peter was not ridiculing dells great write up, more ridiculing jaguar for making a "sealed for life" transmission.
remember text can often be interpreted several ways
Correctly stated "iownme":
Yorta2: I could not possibly have been ridiculing "Dell's ... input", as I did not read pages over pages of old and ancient entries - thus, I have not even read his input: The only thing I read was the new question directly above my reply! As I have been investigating all my options before doing my ATF-change a long time ago, I know quite well, what pretty much everyone is doing: the 3 drains and 3 refills, after which you will have used a lot of expensive ATF (if you use the correct ATF - and if you don't, you should not be doing an ATF change anyway) AND you would still have a lot of old ATF in the system.
Peter, you have read Dell's well written process, or you would not have ridiculed it a couple of times since you wrote your first effort at your own process....
Yorta, stop buggin' me! You are questioning me integrity here! I am sure - no doubt - you will respond to this entry of mine with yet another attack on my person. Just save yourself the time: I will not open this thread here anymore.
If "iownme" wants to know anything else, he should just open a new thread - it is always a bad idea to revive ancient threads...
As I wrote above: When I responded to "iownme" above, I solely responded to what he wrote and asked. I do not have the time to read all the ancient stuff above.
I am fully aware that the 3 x method is wide-spread, which does not make it any better. I did not read at all what Dell wrote - not this time - maybe years ago, but obviously I would not know after many years who wrote what...
PS: Yorta, also note the disclaimer in my standard footnote: "Whatever I write here, especially my "DIY guides", are well meant opinions." I am most certainly not giving my time here to help others to be rewarded with replies bringing me closer to a heard attack... - thus: Think before you post!

Reason: Added PS note
today i tried to place a 3/8" pipe down the fill tube, it went around 8" before stopping, when i pulled it out it was evident it had not made it to the oil level.
i did the dell method, the only thing i did different was to use a 12 volt pump to replace the oil.
i have done this style flush at least 3 times before so i know the difficulty in getting the oil back in.
the pump made it 100% easier.
my pump has 1/2" plastic lines and it fitted precisely into the fill tube.
i used a 1 gallon jug as a reservoir, turned on the pump and it all pumped in nicely with zero leakage around the filler neck entrance.
i will try this method with the transfer case too.
imo adding info and questions to a comprehensive thread which many people view is a valuable and valid addition.
