Transplanting a remapped ECU
I have a 2005 2.0L diesel which i had remapped last summer at a cost of £250. I have bought another 2.0L diesel but a newer 2008 model and i would like to transfer the ECU.
A couple of questions, first, which ECU is it, is it the one buried in the engine, or the one under the dash.
Second, is, i understand i also have to swap over the ignition switch with the immobiliser unit, is this all i have to do. Would it not be easier to have this immobiliser mapped out or disabled?
Any advice welcome.

Jomac,
The x type has the instrument cluster and the ecm and the bcm all coded together.
The ecm and bcm is found above the control pedals, on the bulkhead, inside the car.
The ecm's wiring loom connector is found in the engine compartment, the top of the ecm passes through the bulkhead.
If you do change all three items above, you will need to also have your newer car keys programmed in to the car (pats system), or open the key fobs to change over the transponder pellet.
Additionally the car electrics, especially the engine, need to be the same !
Also the millage will be from the older car too.
Paul.
