Default Trouble codes

Greetings, I would appreciate some advice here. I have trouble codes and failed an emissions test in New Jersey due to CEL/MIL. I have several trouble codes. P171 p174 (too lean, not enough fuel or too much air) (suspect too much air) p 300 302 304 306(cylinder misfires) p1314 p1316(misfire excess emission?) and p420 p430 (catalyst inefficiency) I have checked for damage to hoses/vacuum lines. I didn't see any obvious damage but may have missed something. I took numerous pictures under my hood. If it makes any difference, I did just have an engine replaced by a mechanic. Thanks for viewing.

Update: I just realized I can test my ignition coil via ohms and see if it went bad, I will try this in the morning.

Joe.

Welcome to the forum Joe,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

If you put in the full code (e.g. P0171) you can Search and find useful info.

Joe - I just resolved my issue with the 170s code (left and right bank lean mixture) and the 430s catalytic efficiency codes, due to gasket failures on the intake plenums - smoke test verified the leaks. After 193,000 miles on my 2004 3.0, I guess it was time to replace them. The bank 2 sensor also needed some attention (thread repair kit) for a clean bill of health.

Thanks Greg, I guess it may be time for me to smoke test the vehicle. I noticed I do have a coolant leak. I saw my engine was starting to get closer to the hot side and bought coolant. Its mostly gone. It sounds like we may have had the same problem after doing some research. I will see about getting a test doen and possibly replacing these gaskets.

Joe - regarding your coolant leak: new hoses are cheap insurance. Also, do watch the plastic reservoir (based on my own experience). The return side inlet cracked, requiring a flatbed ride for repair.
