Default Trunk lift assist fixes?

Hi,

Both assist units are broken on my 03 xtype. Has anyone fabricated a bracket or some other way to correct the under engineered OEM design? Could buy new but I see too many posts on the forum with this problem and want to fix it once and forget about it.

Also, has anyone replaced trunk struts with more push to just eliminate lift assists all together.

Thanks

Yes it has been done. A guy was selling units for Rovers and others have tried them on X types.

Try a search of UK Jaguar sites.
Please update your details as we have no idea which continent you are on.

No need to move outside the family; Jaguar itself redesigned the original plastic lift assists ( I am not referring to the struts but to the small "button" units mounted to the hinge mechanism) . The originals tended to crack; the oem Jaguar replacement is strengthened where needed and they work as designed but will not break. For the record, though, theses units are not intended to lift the trunk lid open - just to release it effectively from the latch.

Thanks fellas, I will take it under advisement. I want the trunk to open more when latch released. Will investigate strut option.

Just replaced mine because mine were missing when I bought the car.
