Default radiator fan got a mind of its own

only got the car on b hol monday so still new to us ,but it seems that the cooling fan has a mind of its own. some time from cold it kicks in other times it dont.

car has got 95500 miles with every service done by jag main dealer last one only 3 k miles a go, all levels are good

any ideas where to start. car is a 2002 x type auto with 2.5 V6 engine

I would start with the temperature sensor. It may be sticking and upon start it is signalling a warm engine. I that doesn't solve the issue the I would move on to cleaning all of the connectors. As a last resort it might be a faulty fan control module.

Its not supposed to run all the time

The fan control modules are well known to give problems like this. It is situated in the radiator cowling.

i have found a connector with a white wire and yellow/blue thats looks like it as come loose ,but where i dont know.
with ref to above post thats where the loose connector is
will do more looking over the weekend

This pic will give you an idea of where you should be looking. The module is the finned alloy part on bottom right.
