Turbo Problems
Hi all,
I've had a problem with an intermittent performance on my Jaguar X-Type 2.0 TD Sport 2004 (53). I've checked all of the usual suspects, pipes etc. but to no avail. I took her on a long trip this weekend and now the power has totally gone and my Turbo is squealing like an old kettle over boiling. I don't think my year of Jag has a limp mode as it's the vacuum type with actuator but that is the feeling I get and also there is ALOT of black smoke! I can move the actuator and the turbo impeller spins freely and had no axial movement. Would appreciate anyone's input. Many thanks, Alan.

Thanks Raeturbo,
The turbo is spinning / working as it should. I have now noticed black soot underneath the turbo around the engine. This is obviously where it is leaking from. I am hoping that it could just be a gasket issue. I`m an aircraft engineer so pretty good with tools but not familiar with car engines, how do i remove the turbo / how long should it take?

No probs, Sorry but I've never taken one off one of these, but I would imagine there are people on here who have done the job that can help out. The black smoke is due to over fuelling through lack of boost I suspect as the gasses are leaking and not getting to drive the turbine wheel. Also Just to be sure have a look inside your compressor housing with a torch to see if you can see any witness marks of the comp wheel rubbing at the very back. Did you check for end float by the way? Cheers Rae.
