Never once mentioned the shitty transfer box!
One reason I am going back to a Subaru.
Anyway, still the best X Type coverage ever!

well, if he didn't mention it, no doubt it was because he found no problem with it and in 15 years of ownership of 3 different X-Types in all conditions, dry, snow, ice, rain, neither have I. Quite the contrary - the AWD systems, both early and late versions, have proven to be both reliable and sure-footed.

Sadly, not JUST yours - but fluid changes seems to make an enormous difference in longevity of the transfer case (that measly 600 ml capacity) - and making sure that the cooling air duct (part # C2S188834; + bolt; C2C32665 - it is held just by this one bolt) is fitted underneath - this duct must be removed to change the engine oil and it is very often discarded as a nuisance piece because its purpose is not always recognised. Insufficient cooling > heat-damaged seals > loss of lubricant....and eventual failure. "My kingdom for a horse" comes to mind...My 2005 Sportwagon is still on its original fluid with no issues whatever but this exchange reminds me to have it changed this year.

H8rs gonna H8, and I'm going to enjoy my hidden hero.
