Welcome to the forum cool!
May I suggest that you go to the "New Member" section and introduce yourself per forum rules. This opens up more information contained here among other things.
I did not want your question to go unanswered. I do not know, what I generally would do in this case is go out and wrench on Joyces S type (wifeys vehicle) to find out, but the vehicle will not be home until tomorrow.
In the meantime maybe someone else will know.
You might want to download the JTIS free from here (just search). Its a shop manual.

hello, i have already posted and introduced in the new member, i have 03 s type 4.2 but im trying to get some help with getting to / replacing the 3rd brake light bulbs / assembly (rear window) on my 2003 s- type... my state (NJ) inspection will not pass my vehicle because there are more than 5 bulbs out. i downloaded jtis21 and searched...no help. i searched this forum and google, no help...i understand im a new guy but am i the only one with this problem??
ouch... I'm sure someone will chime in. Everyone is pretty cool here although you're supposed to go to the new member section. With that being said, sorry I can't help. I've only changed the tail lights not the 3rd brake light yet.
i know, tell me about it, dont mean to be negative but man am i frustrated....thanks for your honest reply
coolhotblue, PM forum member and one of ourJag tech "Brutal". Bet somone besides him will chime in before you get the message out to Brutal.

You're told to go to the New Member section so that the mods can realize you aren't a spammer and will often upgrade your access so that you can see more of the forum. Did you try the tips abonano left on your other thread?
Sending PM's to the techs is not a really great idea. It burns them out.
Try the owners vehicle maintenance manual. That is separate from the owners operating manual. That is where Jaguar puts bulb changing instructions.

Admittedly I've got a UK spec car but in the manual there's no mention of renewing the mid-level brake light bulbs (you're talking about the strip in the rear window, yes?) so I can only assume they're LEDs and not designed to be changed.
If yours isn't working have you checked the fuse? It's F53 (a red 10A mini) in the fuse box in the boot (trunk) according to the book, but as I say I have a UK car so yours might be different.

Coolblue, I've merged your two threads as the subject is the same, I understand your frustration, but the people who answer here are doing it because they are enthusiasts trying to help others, if they don't know the answer you will need to be patient, I'm sure someone will have an answer for you.
Here is the info from JTIS for the 2000 car, probaly hasn't changed much.

It's always possible that the tech authors failed to document it. Just get tools out and take apart all the obvious or non-obvious parts till it's accessible
Or, take to a mechanic.

I did spend some in the rear trunk, i took apart the cover only to find the two alpine (subwoofer speakers) that needed to be removed, and still was unable to reach the light assembly after removing them. i could see the connector cable but unable to get to the light assembly. i put it all back together, after some more searching i think i need to attack this from inside by removing the rear parcel shelf and start all over again for my search for the elusive brake light assembly...this truly is nutz
That's what it says in the PDF I posted, you may not be able to open it, 1 more post should do the trick.
so i called a local ***********, talk tot he nice lady service adviser, tell her i have a 3rd brake light problem and a noise coming from my steering wheel that sounds like R2d2 and she said who? she said no problem for the 3rd brake light at $350-425 and that the steering wheel noise can go away for another $200-250 +++ all the initial diagnostic minimum charges.... and the rest of the BS
Wow.... not cool... Let's put our heads together to figure out this 3rd brake light situation and save coolhotblue some bucks!
