Unable to reset trip meter

I have a 2002 x-type 3.0L Auto RHD, Manufactured in Sept 2001. VIN C19294

The trip switch on the end of the indicator stalk cycles thru various messages in the instrument cluster display, including odometer, trip meter, and Litres/100Km.

The instrument cluster switchpack (A/B, Reset and Mls/KM buttons) are NOT present below the headlight switch on the dash, there is a factory blanking plate instead.

My problems is:
I am unable to reset the trip meter
I am unable to switch between trips A/B

Holding the trip switch in, does not reset the tripmeter, it just cycles once to the next message in the display.

Owners manual says to push and hold the button in to reset. Maybe hold longer?

nope... tried all manner of button pressing, even in combination with other switches, like hi-beam, horn, cruse control, etc etc...

have also searched extremely intensively on the net, with no success...

Last resort, is asking for help now...
