Default Unable to select gear on auto

Hi.

I was changing the rear stop light bulb and managed to blow the fuse !!!

Now I cannot get any gear - the selector seems stuck in park.

Any suggestions ?

Is there a fuse for the electronic selector brain that necessarily locks the gear lever in position until the brake pedal is pressed? Sounds as if this may have blown too...

Just to clarify ....

The engine starts OK ( depressing the brake pedal )

Sidelights are OK
Indicators are OK

I just cannot move the gearshift out of park.

Yes there are several fuses that can cause this. You need to check the fuse diagram in "home page stickies". If not a fuse then try these =

So, where can problems occur?
1. CAN data stream is not getting to the J-gate assembly. If the P for park is illuminated, the data stream is being received and power and GND are present.
2. The switch at the brake pedal is not working. There are two switches, one works the brake lights the other cancels cruise control. Are your brake lights illuminating? You might have to get under the dash with a multimeter to check these.
3. The wiring from the brake switche to wherever is bad. The wire is GreenOrange.
4. The not-in-park switch is bad. Because you have disassembled the center console and have access to the J-gate assembly, you should be able to access and test the not-in-park switch. J-gate assembly connector: Pin 1 - 12VDC (greenorange) Pin 2 - GND (black) Pin 4 - Not-in-park switch output, GND when closed (yellow)
5. The wiring from the not-in-park switch is bad. See 4. It looks like you could safely short pin 2 and pin 4 of J-gate assembly connector (backprobe) as doing so would just bypass the not-in-park switch.
6. The gearshift interlock solenoid is bad. Similar to 4., you should have access to the solenoid. Check voltage across solenoid and resistance through solenoid.
7. The gear position switch inside the transmission is bad

also check to see if the bolts fell out of the shifter cable mount on the side of the trans, its another common issue.

there are 2 8mm bolts on the left side of the trans(driver, US) just follow the cable.

don't know if you've checked, but the shifter won't release if the brake lights are not working. maybe a blown brake lamp fuse. Regarding the brake issue causing problems releasing from park, that statement is correct, but I should clarify that it won't simply be a bad bulb or fuse out, but the failure of the brake micro-switch itself that would prevent the safe movement from park. You should here a click in the gear shifter if the switch is working.

The most likely fuse would be #89, but there are others as well.

I'm still no closer to finding the cause of the problem.

Now checking/changing all the fuses.

I have found a set of electrical diagrams. The link on the stickies page does not work ( redirected to a **** site ).

I am still confused by the reference to fuse #80 as my fuse box only goes up to #56.

All fixed !!

I had replaced the brake fuse with a new one, visually good but actually bad.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ram-faq-10712/

Straight from the main page stickies, then down list to fuse box.
