A week back I posted a thread about a torque converter problem, well now i have an update. Back in December i noticed a pretty significant leak coming from the transmission area. I could not determine whether it was trans fluid or engine oil. I took it to Jaguar of Novi, my local Jag dealer and they could not determine either without removing the trans. They said it would be $1600 to remove it so i told them to get it down and i was taking it home. On my way home i immediately called Jaguar Customer Relations because i am just out of warranty by three months but under my mileage warranty. I sumbmitted the claim to them and they said they would get back to me. They called me back 10 days later (meanwhile i have been paying to rent a car) and they told me they would not pay to have the trans removed and that i would be responsilbe but they may help cover repairs. I then took my car to AutoEurope for a second opinion and they told me the same, that thy would have to remove the trans. So...i took it back to Jaguar of Novi and told them to go ahead and pull the transmission, this was on Monday January 21. After 3 full days of having the car they called me back and said the bolts on the torque converter mysteriously backed out of the trans and that the transmission needs to be replaced. Now i'm not the greatest at car repair but do bolts just back out of a torque converter? Jaguar is willing to pay for half, leaving me with a $2000 bill. I don't think this is fair seeing as though this appears to be a production issue not an issue from wear and tear. What does everyone else think. Should i contact Jaguar and demand they pay for it or just stick my tail between my legs and pay for it. I will tell you that if i have to pay for it i will immediately sell the vehicle and never purchase a Jaguar again. If anyone could help with this i would appreciate it. Thanks again! Ken
Ok, I was just checking to make sure that your vehicle had not had anything done with trans previously. Nothing there. Oil pan was replaced as well as the IMT seals. Also rear diff axle seals.
Sorry I couldnt be more help.
If you got Jag to pony up half the repair for a new transmission, I would run with it. Not bad considering vehicle is out of warranty and you have no type of extended.
It is not normal for torque convertor bolts to back out, but it does happen.
