Default Urgent!!! Car is overheating constantly

Hey guys, just a quick question. Couple days ago I was driving up a mountain and the car started to overheat so I pulled over and put water in it continued on my way. Then I got about 300 miles from home and it started overheating every few miles. I'm thinking a blown head gasket because I think I smell exhaust fumes coming from the reservoir. There's no water in the oil but I'm hundreds of miles away from home and due to a layoff I'm broke. I thought about putting head gasket sealer in but I didn't want to do that before I came here and got some ideas. Lay it on me, what do you think?

Wow- 279 views and not one response? C'mon people....

If your engine indicated that it was overheating and it needed water, and there was no sign of external leakage, most likely internal damage was already done.

If the coolant level keeps dropping (inexplicably) and needs a refill every few miles then most likely it's going out the exhaust. No magic in a bottle will help with that big a problem.

My first check would be the 2 nipples on each side of the coolant tank on the top edge.
The most common cause of coolant loss.
Pull the hoses off and look for cracks in the nipples.

Exhaust fumes from the coolant tank, and no signs of leakage anywhere else = blown head gasket.

very fixable providing you don't have warped heads..just a pain in the *** to fix.

I just read this hope not to late BUT to get yourself home fill the reservoir just screw the cap on 1 thread so there is no pressure and won't overheat. DO NOT add COLD WATER to A HOT engine that isn't running then very slowly OR you will crack the block. If you get white exhaust your head gasket / head is gone.
