Default Washer Fluid Warning

Greetings - I keep getting the low washer fluid warning on a 2003 X-Type I just purchased. The driver's side washer nozzle was broken and I replaced it. Both nozzles work fine now - but I keep getting the warning. It's more annoying than anything else because it defaults to the warning rather than showing me the odometer. I've tried to reset it but maybe I'm not doing it correctly? Otherwise, the wipers work just fine.

What's the level in the washer fluid reservoir? That's what you're getting the warning light for. Either you actually have low fluid level or a bad level sensor or wiring thereto.

The fluid is almost full. I'll check it again tomorrow. I'll look at the sensor as well. Many thanks.

I have had that warning for over a decade on my 2000 S type. Fluid is full and operates fine. I have a bad sensor. Multiple mechanics have told me to live with it as the sensor is deep in the car and the labor would be prohibitively expensive (>$1000) to get to it to replace. I'm curious if the 2003 is the same.

If you don't like seeing it. Hit the trip button each time you start up.

Oops - Just noticed you have an X-Type. Not S-type. I have no clue if it is similar. Sorry for my "noise"!

Exactly the same sensor, you need to pull the pass side inner fender (US) to get at it...ten minute job with the tire off.

Mine just had some crud on it from the washer fluid holding the float down, as did the pump. I replaced the pump ($10, new) on general principle since I was already in there. Cleaned the float up.

It is nothing special, just a simply continuity loop connected to a float. Fluid falls down below it, the float drops, and grounds the sensor through the switch. C2S4061 if you really want a new one, but they are around $50.

If you don't mind checking your own fluid, just wedge the float so it doesn't move anymore.
