Question Water coming in on front Passeger side floor mat

Hello All,

FINALLY My 2002 Jaguar X Type 3.0 is now fixed. After replacing the Alternator, 2 oxygen sensors, compressor , condensor and all attached hoses.
No more starting up fine and reving up to number # 4 RPM after 2 minutes !!!. and electrical problems. I now know 100 % the water was the culprit and when I go through the car wash water will leak onto the front right passager side.
I bought new jag push pins the properly seat the cowl but i going to have search for an OUT OF THE BOX SOLUTION to give water a clear way the exit the right and left front side of my car. I am definatly going behind the front wheel well and removing the rubber dampner with styrofoam piece's to make sure NO Water stays anywhere. The TCM does not get wet during car washes. I will also now focus on the replacing suspension which needs new tie rods, bushings and sway bar, I replaced the cracked reluctor ring, but i still have that DSC error which is being caused by a faulty air bag coil spring.

Thanks to all who gave me advice on what to do with my 22 year old X Type.

If any one can recommend a Out of box soultion to the water problem i would appricate it.

Thanks RM1111

Ugh, I had this same problem and it is one of the dumbest designs I have seen. I have the 03 3.0 and tried to come up with and out of the box solution, but came up short. As far as I remember, the little thin strip that connect the cowl to the glass always breaks and I found for me this is where I would get intrusion. I actually tried to compensate by using RTV under it like a silicone to seal it. See aforementioned stupid idea above 😂. I hate to say it but ultimately, I paid for a new cowl. Got an OK deal. Way more pricey than I should care to admit but it was the only surefire way to solve the problem. If you look at any of the used ones on eBay they all are missing that then strip so I figured this might help it last for 20 more years. Maybe LOL.

Mine already had that water shield installed and still leaked water. The foam gasket between the plastic filter piece and the metal firewall had failed. Like many others I removed all the gasket and siliconed it back together. No more leak.

Have you checked that the drains from the plenum chamber are clear? If not the water level builds up and drains via the pollen filter into the cabin air inlet behind the filter and on to the footwell.
