Default Weird noise from car.

I have a 2002 Jaguar x-type 3.0 with 121,500 miles. I had all the brake pads and rotors replaced in November and a rear bearing replaced last January. I am hearing a long drawn out higher pitched moan from the car only while first moving it (under 4 mph). This summer I would hear the noise right after washing it, so if figured soap or dirt was moved around causing the sound. I hear it occasionally, never at regular speeds just when I first move it, on it's only an occasional noise (maybe once a week or less). I may be in reverse or drive (never has mattered) and only at low speeds under 4mph (driveway speeds). Once again it's a higher pitched moan noise that lasts like 2-3 seconds. I know what a bearing sounds like when it goes bad, could this be an axle issue, or does this sound like nothing alarming. I am sure it's just dirt under the brake pads, but wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks!!

What you are hearing could be rust on the rotors, particularly if it occurs after washing the car and it clears up after the first stop or two.

Thanks Mark, that's what I thought. My car sits outside so water, and snow gets on the rotors. I live in Ohio so the moisture content in the air is brutal, and I did see some rust forming on the rotors, but the noise stops. Its a somewhat sporatic sound. I never know when I will hear it, I just wanted to gague some opinions to make sure no one else had a major issue pop up after hearing a similar sound. Thanks!

I was reversing out of my driveway when I heard the same thing, almost felt like my pads were shot. When I swapped to the winter wheels I checked and all my pads are fine so I figure I'm hearing the rust come off the rotors, up here, and I'm on the coast, it takes a day to rust my rotors so....

Thanks sidewalkman- Since Ohio has days with over 80% humidity and we have about 6 inches of snow on the ground, the roads are really salty. It literally takes a few hours before a little bit of rust starts to form on the rotors. I am glad to know I am not the only one hearing this. back in the fall, I figured since I needed new brake pads and rotors that the noise was related to bad brake pads, but its just the ohio climate. Thanks! Have a merry Christmas!

My brakes make the same sound sometimes when backing out of my driveway. It's nothing serious.
