Went to an Autocross on sunday and...
...nothing is broken!
It was so much fun. The understeer was brutal though, and the lot didn't offer much grip and the front tires liked to slide. Hopefully soon I can get the suspension sorted out. This wont be my last autocross for sure. I only got 4 runs in, I need an alignment and my right rear is/was getting eaten up pretty bad. My fastest time was on par with the mostly stock WRX so I was happy about that. On to some pics and a clip of part of a run;

Well you certainly have the right engine/trans combo for autocrossing an X-Type.
When "Slaloming" (how Jaguar refers to autocrossing... ;-) I found that in both my '05 3l/auto X-Type and my '08 S-Type 4.2l I was losing a lot of time with the transmission shifting. I'd get off the gas on cornering and the trans would up shift I'd then "stand" on it on exit and the trans would down shift before power started being applied. I had the shifter in 2nd and wish I could have kept it in first.
This was a particular problem with JCNA Slaloms since the official course is very tight. A standard would have really helped me keep the motor in the sweet spot!

Sweet! Love the sounds! Mines a stock 2.5 Auto. I wish I'd bought a 5 speed, but when I was looking there were none that were any good.
I always drove mine softly. Paranoid about the transfer case. But i'm starting not to care any more! Above 3000 RPM the Jag actually has a little power! But the MPG goes down the toilet.

I don't baby my car, I don't beat on it every day, but I don't baby it either. In December I'll have had my X for a year and I haven't had any problems with it. I'm going to be doing more autocross and I hope to do some track days next year so I guess I'll be putting that transfer case to the test. I don't really worry about it breaking, if it does, it does, but I'm going to enjoy driving and have fun pushing my car until it does, if it does, break. Then I'll fix it ha.

I like that attitude. I would have it too if thought I was capable of changing the case out myself!! But the thought of paying someone to install one at twice or three times the cost of the part keeps me treating the car like a newborn kitten whose mother ran of and needs to be bottle fed.

I've never been one to take any car to a mechanic. I frankly don't trust 99% of them, and the idea of paying someone to do something I could do if I just took the time bothers me. There are some things I cant do, like paint...so, I have good friends that can do those things haha. Not everyone is blessed with mechanical ability so I'm thankful I am, or I couldn't afford to do the things I want to do.
