Hi all- New here and not good at posts and online stuff. Sorry if this is in wrong forum or place. Can someone tell me where the flasher module is for the 4-ways/hazard flashers ? All I ever get on Google is the switch on the dash, and I don't think the flasher is part of that small switch. Very frustrating. Thank you for any help. wilco40 in NW Minnesota
The hazards are only a switch. They are activated by the General Electronic Module. I have attached a diagram showing where the module is located.
It is possible that the switch is corroded. Exercise it back and forth a few times to clean the contacts.
Check the module and see if there is a loose connector.
Disconnect the battery and remove the connectors one at a time and clean and reseat if none are loose.
Also check fuses 24 and 25 in the fuse box in the engine compartment just to the rear of the battery.
wilco: The hazard lights are the same as the 6 yellow turn signal bulbs. So first confirm the turn signal bulbs work. Turn the ignition key to the run position and the turn signal on the steering wheel column to the left, and then to the right. Do 6 yellow bulbs flash on & off: 2 in the headlights, 2 behind the front tires, and 2 in the tail lights?
If 'yes', the hazard light problem is probably:
(1) The hazard light button is not closing properly to complete the circuit, or
(2) A problem with the wire between the hazard light button and the GEM module (General Electronic Control Module) - under the dash by the US passenger's right foot. Check all the connectors into the GEM to confirm none are loose, or
(3) A bad ground wire from the hazard light to the chassis - check the resistance with a multi-meter, or temporarily substitute your own ground wire.
Here's the Hazard Light wiring in a 2002. Pretty straight forward.
Thanks to both of you. Fuses are good, will go thru GEM connections next. Marvelous little car in spite of it's idiosyncrasies. I still think there is one tiny module in it labeled "Lucas", though.

Let me tell you a story about fuses. I had no rear passenger tail lights. Checked bulbs nothing burnt but put new ones in anyway. Turned them on and still dead. Pulled the fuses and checked with a meter both sides read good to go. I said what the heck put new ones in and voila tail lights. The fuses metered good but wouldn't hold a load.

Not too unusual. The fuse blades can corrode not allowing current flow.
