Default Window Issues

My 02 X-Type has windows that have a mind of their own. I have seen other posts, but I never seen a resolution so I will ask again for a point in the right direction. My front windows will roll up about halfway, and then back down by themselves. The passenger side does the same thing. The rear windows work without any issues. The front windows have being doing this a while, but I am just now getting to it. Some days the windows roll up fine without any hesitation or problems. My final day for this problem was when I could not get the window up into before entering a car wash, and you know the rest of the story.. Thanks in advance for any input..

Dude: Perhaps you've already tried reseting the window's "one touch" program, but in case you haven't, it's worth a try.....

Yes, I have tried that and most of the time the window will not even go up all the way in order to perform the "one touch program," it was the cheapest route, so, "oh yea, that was my first test..."..lol

Look very carefully at your window "fuzzies", they are actually called waist seals.

These are the rubber strips that seal moisture out of the doors, and they come into contact with the glass.

Water can get down ito the area between the rubber and its mounting frame, and cause them to rust and bubble. This also makes them 'fatter' than they should be.

Your window motor has an inertia switch in it that senses anything pushing on the window, for example, an elbow, or a child's hand...at any rate, it takes only a little resistance to make the window stop and reverse.

Sometimes, window tint can get scratched or roughen up, and this can also cause the backpressure, like I said, it doesn't take much!

If the seals are the problem, they can be changed.

The seals are relatively inexpensive, and almost effortless to replace.

wa3ra.

Thank you for the advice. You give a perfect example of my issue at hand. I was toying with them earlier, and when I would put my hand on the window during its' "going up" process, the window would hit my hand and go right back down. I would not give it much resistance, it was just very sensitive to the touch, so I will inspect the "fuzzies tomorrow in depth and go from there. I hope that does resolve the issue. I do remember seeing the window act like it was rubbing against a dry rubber surface, so maybe this will get that issue resolved. Thanks again...
