Default Window Tinting

Hello all, looking to add some tint to my 02 Jag Xtype Sport black w/ black leather interior. Anyone else have the same with tint and can you supply pics, laws are strict here in NY but I do have a doctors note. Not sure I want to go super dark but welcome any feedback . If anyone has the same car with 35% and 50% or even 20% that would be helpful.

Thanks all

Dgoose, while I don't have black on black, I have a BRG car in the shade which is going to look very dark. I have 20% tint on the windows in the pic. This may give you an idea of what you are looking at.

. Please keep in mind that I have the tan interior. With the black interior, it will be more difficult to see the details inside the car.

Thanks Thermo, that does help, originally the tint place that I usually use thought 55% would look good on the side 4 windows and then 35% on the rear glass but I think I may go 35% all around, since it will still be dark and only a little lighter than yours. Want to avoid the police if I can. Thanks again.....

In the past I've used 20% tint on my vehicles. My X-Type was tinted by the previous owner, though (I'm guessing 35%). They're starting to fade and turn purple from age; I might have them redone.

LIke was mentioned, you can go cheap on the tint and get the base tint, but you will find that over the years, the tint will lighten on you. Spend the extra $20 or so and get the next grade up tint, especially if you plan on owning the car for a long, long time. I bought some tint off of e-bay and after 6 years, I now have a dark "ring" around my windows from where the tint that is not in the window seal has lightened and the stuff in the seal is still the really dark color. Not a problem unless you drive around with the window part way down.

Mine had 20 on it, would have stayed but state inspection said otherwise. Since my wife drives it alot I will only put 35 back on it. 20 was too dark sometimes at night.
Will try to add a pic asap, sure I have one on one of these devices.

edit, been a couple years, guess the pictures are on my dead notebook.

Default Window Tint Decision

So I appreciate everyones comments and help in deciding what to go with. In the end I decided to go with Madico Charcool, 35% rear window and 55% on 4 side windows. Decided to go with the 55% only because I felt like 35% might be too dark based on the black leather interior. The Madico tends to be a little darker than other manufacturers tint. Below are some pics, let me know what you all think.

Real Nice. I like it - just dark enough.

Default Tint: My 03 Black on black sport

In Minnesota (mpls and suburbs) it's city by city and the mood of the officer. When I bought mine 6 years ago I took it to our local police station and they said NO problem with it at 40% but other towns might not agree. Sure enough six months pass they stop my wife going to work. She had to go to court with proof of reduced tint,($120.00 later for tint). Reduced it to 70% at that time but they waved the fine. I have seen others at 35% since so there is no standard just whatever mood there in at the time.

That is what they say here in NY too but I went with 55% as they should leave me alone being that you can still see a bit.
