Default Wont start when cold

Hey guys i have a 2004 X Type. It won't start when it gets really cold outside. Got battery tested and said it was in great shape. When I turn the key it makes a click sound but not start. All my light come on inside, radio works, heater will even come on. Jump starting it is 50 50 . some times it will start other times it won't. once its running it will start after. However, if i leave if for 1.5 2 hrs it will not start again. I bought a little electric heater and slide it under the engine. after i heat the engine it will start. Help? what should i do next? is this common? Whats the deal?

Welcome to the forums. When you have a moment stop by the new member section to introduce yourself. I'm sure once you surf around and get more familiar with the site you will find it is a wealth of information and helpful people.

As for your issue. how old is your battery? And how did you have it tested? Sure sounds like it is the battery. Could also be the cables. Do some surfing around here on both of those things and you will see what I mean. If your battery is a few years old it might be a good idea to change it out anyway as it is not uncommon for them to just go without warning. A new battery is not that expensive and the most logical place to start. Good luck. I'm sure you'll be up and running soon!

Hi micalswaim; greetings and welcome ...

As stated by Alfadude, once you drop by the New Member Intro section, you will get a warm welcome and some great advice on posting and the many resources here ... one of the latter goes to the heart of your query ... and very much as Alfadude has asked.

In brief, we have seen many, many examples of sudden battery failure causing a wide variety of problems in these Jaguars - so it is always the place to start. Also, beware the average battery meter's pronouncement that your battery is "good", "fair", "bad" or anything else generic. You need to test the load voltage of your battery using a simple low cost Digital Multimeter - 12.6V is the minimum acceptable; 12V is "no go"; and 11s is "dead".

So, first question is not "Is battery OK?" ... but ... "What is battery Voltage?" Then we can proceed from there ...

Best wishes,
Ken
