Default Working on car and found water under carpet

I very recently bought the 2.2d car.
The dealer had to fit a new flywheel/clutch kit a few weeks ago.
The mechanic told me he had major problems with the captive nuts turning on the sub frame bolts.

Now I have just lifted the drivers side (uk) carpet and unbolted the drivers seat to access the fuel flap lever, and replace it due to the level being snapped.

Whilst lifting the carpet, the underside is sopping wet, and the water is clear, and minimal rust, so I am guessing the water leak must be recent.

Now, as the mechanic has cut corners doing the replacement flywheel/clutch, badly broke wheel arch liners and all other associated panels, ripping them off and using new holes with self tappers to bodge it up, I am wondering if he just cut out the floor above the captive nuts, and just put the carpet/sound deadening back.
Would this cause the water issue?

When I rolled the carpet out of the way, under the pedals, their is a sound absorbing thick cover, I could not remove this easily.

Do you think water could enter the floor with a hole cut that would be inside a box section ?

Also looking at other possibilities, are there any other reasons for water beside possible drainage block issue from windscreen, behind the arch liner ?

Thanks,
Paul.

items arrowed are foam gaskets originally, now replaced by rubber ones.

You'll need to change the cabin filter too, once blockage identified.
Also check arrowed gaskets for soundness- may be contributing to issue too.

Another possibility could be the air distribution housing condensate drain hose.
If it has been bumped free and loose then it will drain into the floor board. Give a good look under the dash and look for a loose hose.

And lets not forget plugged moonroof drain holes/pipes also leaking into the interior of car. There is a post by Thermo on fixing =

Thanks guys for all the good information.
I will now look at all the points suggested in turn, at least i rule out the sun roof as the car does not have one.

Hi JagXSE,
Both part 5 pieces, one on each side, are completely missing, as well as item number 2 !
I strongly suspect these went missing by the idiot that probably removed bonnet when replacing flywheel/clutch ?

What are the 2 side cheeks/fillers called?

Also I went under the car and looked at the condensate drain pipe, it has a plastic insert located at the end, I managed to blow up the pipe, and it seemed clear.

I have tried to find the internal condensate pipe inside, but it is right behind the heater system, with no way to get there.

Thanks,
Paul.
