Default No!

At 217K miles the car is about worn out and will need continual expensive repairs. The '02 is an early model and had a lot of problems (rust, gearboxes, transfer case, leather wear & general bits of trim falling off; just to name the popular maladies). Finally the 2.5 engine is weak and will leave you wanting more. 1.5K is cheap but then IMHO the car is a good candidate for the crusher.

For $2500 U.S., give or take, and the thing it in good condition, why not? If you have a documented history of the repairs made - what has been replaced? Prop shafts, transfer case, steering rack, fuel sending unit etc? If most of that has been done, you might have a solid car for cheap.

Would it be your primary car or a toy?

No, the 2.5 isn't going to win many stoplight drags, but it will get up and move in traffic just fine. And AWD is always nice in the slop.

look at the other cars in that price range, then look at the jag again. i bet the jag look and drive much better. dependin on your climate, the AWD may be a great added feature for you.
im lookin for a similar deal in canada to use it as a winter car, i want the 5 speed...my gf has the 3.0L 2002.
yes there are a few things that go on it but not too bad. she only has 115,000km on it tho.

HELP
Im confused now,i have to move fast because there are other people interested too.
Its near immaculate condition and the leather interior is unmarked.

I know its high miles but im not going to hammer it everywhere.

The main miles have all been done on the motorway and the oil is a golden colour, engine sounds sweet as a nut.

Shoul i go for it?

if the oil looks fresh...it probably was just changed...makes people think its a clean engine..ide rather see the oil after about 3000km of driving.

if it is all highway miles, there should be stone chips on the hood and front bumper, stones have a greater impact on the paint when at high speeds..if it is city driven the paint will look much better...so be carefull.

who said there are other buyers interested? did you see someone else looking at the car?
im a strong believer in if someone else gets it before you its not ment to be your car. never rush a purchase on a vehicle because whoever selling it said someone else wants it or is comming to buy it...its bs.
(this rule is a exceptoion on classic cars and some other rare cars....find what you are hunting for and ATTACK!!! lol)

So if you get it and it sucks, you are out $2500 bucks. Big deal. There are absolutely no guarantees for any vehicle for that price range, no matter what the make or model.

Will they let you take it to a mechanic for a once over?

ghettomike makes a good point about the stone chips. The front end will be sandblasted if that's mostly highway miles.

I don't know your personal situation, but if it was to be my primary car, I'd pass. But for a winter beater or weekend toy, I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat.

Awesome attitude PLP. Buying any car at that price is a huge risk. Get in it and enjoy it. What do you have to lose?

Default Woot!

Good for you Percy! Congrats! $2500 isn't much of anythiong these days, so while the brain may say "thats alot of miles," you have to listen to your heart too - and those are beautiful sweet cars. It sounds like someone else loved her too, and took pretty good care of her. Good luck with it!

Great news Percy - I hope you knock on wood before you post these "no problems" updates!

How the heck did you get 36mpg ? Were you drafting a van the whole way or something?

One time cruising up to six flags with my gf I reset my trip computer as soon as I got on the highway and had cruise control set to 65. When I got out at six flags after an hour and 20 mins, computer was saying 35.5 MPG. I have never seen anything over 28 on this car ever.

So it is possible
