The X-Type uses the JATCO JF506E. The ESSO LT71141 is NOT THE CORRECT FLUID.
The LT71141 is for the ZF 5HP24 gearbox ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can use Audi/VW fluid for the 09A 5 speed because it is THE SAME GEARBOX.
You can also use Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle as it meets the same specs for the JATCO gearbox. Land Rover uses this gearbox also.

The Valvoline fluid might be fine but they are saying that it is compatible with LT71141 and that is NOT USED in the JATCO gearbox.

JATCO fliuid is RED and the ESSO LT71141 is a 'golden color'.

This contradicts information elsewhere on this very forum. How are we to determine the correct fluid for these transmissions?

I'm NOT saying that the Valvoline is incorrect. I'm saying that the response that it replaces LT71141 IS INCORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It may be compatible or it may not.

What I am saying is that there are posts indicating that lt 71141 is the correct sprc. How can we resolve this?

Jaguar NEVER recommended ESSO LT71141 for the JATCO JF506E.
The correct part number for the Jaguar fluid is C2S 12120.
People can put whatever they want in their cars.
I use the Jaguar fluid or Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle ATF because it meets the specs.
I work on a lot more VW 09A transmissions (solenoids and fluid changes) than Jaguars.

The VW fluid is G 052 990 A2 so I guess you can use it also.
