Default x type automatic trans

Hello
I am thinking about picking up an 02 x type with trans problems. I found many used transmissions. The car 92k on it looks pretty clean and can get it pretty cheap. Is it worth it to put a used trans in or rebuild the one that came out? Were any years better than other for trans issues? Im sure someone has dealt with this just looking for good advice or any other thoughts? Thanks!!

Default Hi 2Jag,

I don't know if you have mechy experience but as a newbie, I would try to get as much info as you can. I take it you are interested in a particular vehicle.
It would help if you know the people and can work out if there are any particular problems. I do know that a few garages in my area won't touch an auto jag as it's quite a complex beast, especially all wheel drive!
In my experience, I've had issues with both my auto x types but they were crash related with one and a complete mechanical blunder with the other, both were written off.
Damed if I do .. Damned if I don't (In my view, LUCKY WHITE HEATHER! )
I am not aware of any major issues, but be careful, the car is only as good as they were treated.
I think the X~Type is the best and if I won the lottery, I would have more! Hmm, maybe a cute little XKR, oh yeah and an XJR 350, and a Mark II and a XK220 and a Double-6........ maybeeez!
Good Luck and spread the good news if it works, the guys here (more in the know should keep you informed!)
Anyway your heart is in the right place, keep smiling,
Regards, Stu

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas. I have had problems with the manual trans as well. The clutch job is a nightmare! I have helped do the clutch job so am fairly familiar with how they come apart. I am Marine Mechanic I work on Inboard boats for ski and wakeboarding. I feel I can do the project just not sure which is the best used trans? What year had less problems? or if any problems were upgraded or rebuilding is the way to go? Im hoping to do more research before the project

Default Cheers 2Jag

You know a lot more than me!
I want to do things with my car but the snow isn't helping, I have a garage but I moved recently and have a mice infestation, so I'm waiting for the good weather, I'll sign off just now, one of the regulars will no doubt aid and assist you in your quest. I think half of the battle is money versus time in my case, but be patient and I think you'll win through! Regards and good Luck, Stu

I do agree with the money and time battle. It is also a big help when you have a place to do the work! Snow is not a good place to work on a Jag! Thanks for the encouraging words! Good luck with your fixes!
