X Type Buffeting sound from cold.
Hi All
We own a becoming classic 1999 Mondeo Ghia X Estate, PantherBlack, 2.5 V6, excellent car, which we recently decided to send off forrestoration taking some 6 weeks.
During that time and needing an Estate we purchased a 2004Jaguar X Type Estate, British Racing Green, V6 2.5, excellent car, and noticedshe seems to follow much the same interesting `buffeting`, when cold, at speedsabove say 30 mph, lasting some 5 minutes till the engine is warmed when the `buffeting`,stops.
The sound from the Jaguar is similar to that we experiencefrom the Mondeo though louder, the Mondeo settles down after a shorterinterval, perhaps 2 – 3 minutes.
The sound is not the Engine, when throttled off, the soundis unaffected, and continues, we wondered if an Air Gate was closed, or open, when the engine was cold, and over the few minutes that the engine warmed up,the Air Gate, moved into a new position.
Does anyone know anything about this, is a part wearing, isthere a fix, is it just a natural `quirk`, of these type cars both of whichhave similar or same engines and floor pans.
Any ideas appreciated.

Vegaone, there is no damper that repositions that I am aware of in these cars based on temperature (granted, I have thought about adding something like this to help with mileage as an experiment). It may be that you have say the prop shaft bearing that is making a little noise until it gets up to temp. Without hearing the noise, it is difficult to diagnose a noise like this.

We booked her in for service at an experienced service garage who consulted Jaguar, the solution turned out to be a near new tyre that had blistered, we fitted premium tyres all round and that fixed it.
We also asked about the buzzing fan/sensor, in the dash, behind the small grill, buzzing all the time the car is live, and for some time after lock up.
This turns out to be a common note and might be something we will adapt to unless you guys have a solution, how do we get at the fan, do we prise off the small grill, would light WD40 do the trick.
Have good day.
