X-type engine replaced from the top
Hello fellow Jaguarians,
..I wanted to write this brief statement about swapping the engine in the X-types because it is believed that the engine should be pulled from under the car, but I just replaced the engine in my 02 X-type 3.0 and did so by pulling the engine from the top and installed the new engine in reverse order. I did not write a detailed step by step guide, but I did want to share that it is possible to pull & install the engine through the top, rather than dropping the engine, tranny, sub-frame, etc., etc., from the bottom..Anyways, just let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to remember, but yes, it can be done..

yep from the top is easier just go carefully and unclip the bonnet stems. I used extremely strong stainless steel cleats on the engine chains which worked well. When you went to restart did it crank up straight away I am struggling to start mine even though no dtc's some people have said reprogramme others say it should fire up. Its turning over just refusing to fire.

Leaper did you also change the ecu or left the original one in place ? If you changed it then put the original ecu back in. Also check all of the grounds that had been unhooked in the process of removing the engine and make sure their all clean and good. And also was the engine a runner when you got it ? If not then it could have a bad sensor somewhere and you may want to use the one out of your old engine. Other than that start with spraying it with starting fluid to see if it’s getting fire and if it does hit then that’s a sign it’s not getting fuel. When swapping gas engines they don’t have to be reprogrammed but if you did swap the ecu then it will need the original or the one you installed will have to be programmed
