Question X-type Jerks and gives a thud when stepping off and on the gas.

Hey Guys,
I have a 2004 X-type 3.0 Sport with 97k miles on it.
When i'm at speed, let off the gas, and re-apply it, the car gives a little thud from underneath along with a small jerk. I was wondering if it could be a broken motor mount possibly? Any Opinions?

Thanks!

Edge, if you are thinking it is a motor mount, this is easy to check. With the help of a friend, have them stand off to the side as you have the hood of the car open. Now, start the engine, place your foot firmly on the brake, put the car in gear and give it just a little gas (ensure you have your foot on the brake hard enough that the car will not roll forward). Get the engine RPMs just momentarily up to say 1500 RPM or so. Does the motor move just a little bit or like it is jump out of the engine bay. A little bit is normal. Out of the engine bay, you have a problem. Granted, a good look with a flash light at the side mounts and you will have a good idea if whether the mounts are trashed or not.

I would be looking more at a driveline problem than a motor mount. My experience with transmounted engines and broken motor mounts is that the car will vibrate a lot when at idle.

Went under the car the other day with a buddy of mine. We found that the driveshaft had a lot of slack when going through the gears. Diagnosed as a worn U Joint in the middle of the 2 driveshafts.
Good: Question Solved.
Bad: the U Joint is non replaceable therefor I will need to replace both driveshafts.
