Default Factory Navigation - No voice commands

I just purchased a 2004 x-type 3.0 with factory navigation. The entire system works great, all controls are functioning and it calculates route and gives me direction.

The problem is that there is no voice assistance (IE:the annoying voice that says "Please make a legal u-turn when possible" etc.)

I have tried all the audio settings that I can find in the in dash menu and in the owners manual simply touches on the settings and says that she should be working. I have tried with the radio on and off.

In every other car I have been in with factory installed navigation the radio will mute when you are approaching your next direction and the voice will tell you what to do, then radio resumes. I can not get her to say a thing. I have reset and reloaded the original DVD-Rom in the trunk and it is still the same.

Any help? Any suggestions!?! Thanks in advance!

I bumped into the same problem.
Did you already find a solution for this?

Thanks.

When you approach somewhere where the gps should be telling you directions, does your radio mute as if the navigation is saying something?

Nope, not at all.
The volume stays at the same level.

Also when I tap the button at the right corner of the screen it does not repeat or tell anything :-(

The exact same problem over here. Did anyone have a solution yet? It’s so frustrating it doesn’t work anymore.

I WANT FIONA BACK!

I finaly found out for myself.
Only the menu settings are not enough. When the menu settings tells you that the volume is high enough it's still possible to have no voice. This is misleading.

What you need to do is to turn the volume up when the voice is speaking.
Only when you turn the volume up when speaking the volume will go up.

Try it yourself, I hope it works for you as it did for me and let us know.

Good luck

Justmac, can you please elaborate? I've had this issue for over a year and it's really annoying.

How can I get to the menu settings to control the volume?

How can I put the volume up if I don't know when the voice is speaking because I can't hear it? For me, when I press the button on the bottom-right corner of the nav screen and then adjust the volume, it adjusts the stereo volume, not the nav volume.

I look forward to hearing back from you. Thanks

Never mind. I found out what my issue was. I had a 2006/2007 unofficial copy, and although it had the correct map and everything worked well, the voice directions didn't work. I switched back to my original copy and it works perfectly.

What I meant is to turn the volume up when the voice is speaking.
To let the voice spreak press the loudspeaker icon and than turn manualy the volume up by turning the button.

I hope this makes sense.

So this got the discussion started again, thank you!

Now I have the original DVD yet still no Fiona. When I push the button for spoken directions and turn the volume up only the music gets louder.

I already did a reset. Didn’t change anything either. What do I need to do?
