Hey Guys,

I have a 2004 X-type 3.0 Sport with 97k miles on it.
When i'm at speed, let off the gas, and re-apply it, the car gives a little thud from underneath along with a small jerk. I was wondering if it could be a broken motor mount possibly? Any Opinions?

Sounds like a U J you need to check

 

When the car is stationary and the car is rocked backwards and forwards is the noise pronounced and can it be felt through the wheels. If it is not the U J it could be rear subframe mounts which are a known issue, they are located forward of the rear wheels and attach the subframe to the body with a large flat bush, this gives up and allows movement in the whole frame, replacement is relatively easy with the right tools.

 

Thanks for your suggestions guys, I took a look at those areas. Found that the driveshaft had a lot of slack in it. The U Joint connecting the two sections of driveshaft in the middle of the car is worn. Unfortunately the UJ is non-replaceable so looks like i'll need a new driveshaft. >_<
