Default X-Type platform

Hey folks-

I know the S-Type and the Lincoln LS share the same platform, what does the X-type platform corrspond with? Is it also the LS? Does it share a Ford platform? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.....Cheers!

Jaybo, supposedly shares a platform with the Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable line. Chris "Thermo" Coleman

I thought it was the Contour which is smaller than the Taurus.

if the X-type is the same platform with the Ford Taurus, why is it so much smaller inside? smaller body?

hanky, doors are very thick on the Jag, therefore makes the interior seem smaller. Done for crash protection. Chris "Thermo" Coleman

What happened to the Mondeo..?
I've never heard of anyone saying the X shares a chasis with a Taurus/Contour/whatever. The X type shares the same chasis (suspension, brakes, floor pan, drivetrain, etc) as the Ford Mondeo, which isn't available here in the states.

Shares around 20% off pars with the Mk3 Mondeo. Some parts however have been reegineered by Jag so even a Ford Engineer wouldnt recognise them eg the single tube shocker have been reenginnered to provide a twin tube design.Brakes same up to 2004, air con same, wiper motors same.Just replaced pollen filter on mine which has Ford stamp onit from Ja dealer but Ford dont recognose it from aUK car so it mightbe from aUS model??

Don't you guys think it is stupid though? I think a Jag should be a Jag not a ford!

From Jaguar:-
If the X Type wasnt based on the Ford (Mondeo) then there would be no X Type due to the length of time and cost it would have taken Jaguar to develop the floorpan from scratch!

Mondeo <> Contour or Taurus crap.

Mondeo got great reviews in europe, and as a Jag x owner, I can see why

The only relation between the X and a Taurus/Sable is the engine (3.0L). And even the engines are very different.
The 2.5L is similar to what is used in the Contour/Cougar, but with VVT if I'm not mistaken.
The Taurus and X DO NOT share the same platform. Not in any way, shape, form, or fashion.

Crawl under you car and take a look... There are many parts that have Jaguar stamped into them. Others are clearly marked FORD. The pinion seal in the transfer case, stamped Ford. Ford cannot even look up the part number in their computer.

As the Tech was scratching his head, "man, I don't know......thats weird" he said.
