Default X-type problems. HELP!!

How's everybody doing.

So I've had my xtype for a few months now, and it has a few issues going on.

I took it to my mechanic who specializes in jaguars only.
He ran the diagnostics and a few codes came back, including 706.

The car has two messages, gearbox fault and cruise control not available.
My mechanic ordered a used tcm module thinking mine may not be working properly. Installed that, didn't fix it.

Brought it back, had a new transmission range sensor (I think?? It was a small part installed on the top of the transmission which the shifter controlled). Anyways, still didn't fix it.

My mechanic suggested I take it to the dealer. Dealer said it may need a new shifter assembly and cable. Will cost around 1,200 they said. Will this even fix it??

Also: the car drives fine when just in "3" on the j-gate. When I shift it to "4" or "D" on the j-gate that's when the codes and lights come on.

Hope I described everything accurately, any help would be appreciated!!!!!

Sgel, first off, welcome to the forums. I Think you will enjoy what we have to say here. So, sit back, do some reading and enjoy a cup of joe.

As for your issue, i bet you will find that your problem will be tied back to the throttle body. The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is known for failing and it will cause what you are seeing. Unfortunately, the repair for this is a new throttlebody in a lot of cases. But, you should also look at the wiring going into the throttle motor and the TPS. This wiring is known for getting damaged and shorting out, leading to strange conditions like you are seeing. It could be an easy fix if you know something about wiring.

If you do some looking on e-bay, you can find rebuilt throttle bodies there for around $400. If you have to buy a new one, it is going to set you back about $1600. You may want to also give cleaning the throttle body a shot just to make sure that it isn't sticking on you. There have been some silly things we have seen over the years.
