Default X-Type won't start, just makes shrill sound

I went to start my 02 X-Type 3.0 today and it wouldn't start. Upon turning the key, the engine just makes a shrill sound. I have only been driving my car once or twice a week, so I thought the battery had discharged with the cold weather but when I took it in, the mechanic said it was above 700 CCAs, well above the 600 CCAs needed to start. All lights and accessories work, but the car will not start. I switched the windshield wiper relay with the starter motor relay and still no luck. Any ideas on why my car won't start before I have it towed to the mechanic?

Default The Jag is fixed.

After numerous tries I was able to get the car started and drive it into the mechanic. One day and almost $300 later it turned out I needed a new starter. The Jag now starts right up.

More useful would be knowing if it was a manual or auto tranny.

Even better would be spreading the word that the manual tranny starters get contaminated with clutch dust and give that exact symptom.

Even further, it would be good to let everyone know that manual tranny starters are easy to remove, clean, and put back into service for several more years.
