yea, all US models have the leaper, standard, sport and vdp.

 

Yep guys...........deffo a US thing, no way its allowed over here, unless maybe on older classic cars. Personally speaking, not my thing anyway............but, its all down to individual taste I guess

Yeah, people like snatching them off of Jags in the States. It really quite pathetic..

 

It is in case you hit a pedestrian. We are not allowed anything that protrudes from the body over a certain distance. I understand that the current leaper hood ornaments used in the States, etc, break off, but that is still potentially illegal under our UK (and probably EU)laws. Besides which if they did break off easily then they would be nicked every time you pull up at a set of traffic lights so would not be cost effective.

 

I think hood leapers should have a feature what Rolls Royce Spirit of Ecstasy has it .You know it retracts itself down when somebody touches it

 

I still think that the idea to put a charge on the leaper that would cause for anyone who touches it to be shocked would be the best thing to do. LOL all the time!

 

Serious.If you fit one over here without telling your insurance company you could well be uninsured.If you ask to fit them they will refuse anyway.Another example of this, at our bodyshop we had a Mitsubushi 4x4 which had front damage including to the bullbars.We could not get hold of replacement bullbars from the dealers as they are illegal to refit even if theu had them on when they were new before the laws changed on this.

 

Will insurance companies insure you if you have the bull bars though? What about a leaper? If you had the leaper before the law came out, do they say something about it?

 

they can't have the law working backwards, it would be against a basic legal principle. so old leapers are safe, i'd say.

 

UKX typesdo not have leapers from the factory.Ifa vehicle came out of the factory withbullbars then you are insured.If its an addition/modification to what was on when it came out of the factory then youre not.
