x400 gear shift stuck
I have tried searching the forum for anyone with my problem's solution in vain. I was recently driving the x400 jaguar, a 2004 X type automatic transmission with 2.1L engine, and out of curiosity(which obviously killed the cat), tried to shift the selector into '4' position as indicated on the gear selector display. Suddenly, the Gearbox Fault came on the dash board, and the red light on the indicator went out. the car never stalled, and for fear of switching it off and get stuck in town, i drove straight home. Upon reaching, I switch it off then restarting, the car fired up immediately, and the Red lights returned.
To my shock, the shifter could not go beyond Neutral(N), I have to start the car in N, and can shift the car to D, then 4, but cannot shift it beyond N to P. Am totally scared of even hooking SDD onto the car seeing that the VIN in the ECU and instrument cluster and GEM are different from the other modules since I got a donor set, the car having been grounded for close to two years. So, before I plug in SDD, could anyone point me into the right direction on how to proceed.
Thanks in advance

I'd check the gear shift cable and also the where it hooks to the transmission. If either is even slightly out of sync you'll have shifting problems.
