Question Xenon Headlight Flickering, then goes out

As I don't typically drive the X-Type at night (it's my commuter, have another car) it hasn't been a huge problem but I'd like to get it fixed (without a giant expense).

When I start the car, both the driver and passenger headlights work fine, and auto-level as they should. Maybe 5 minutes into my drive, the passenger light will start to flicker and a couple minutes after that, it will go out completely.

The strange thing is that after leaving it parked for a while, when I goto start the car again, both lights are working and the process starts all over. This has been going on for over a month.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what I could replace or check first?

Thanks.

There are four possible causes, any one of which or combination of these can cause a flicker and/or the light to flicker then go out:

1. Bulb going bad
2. Ballast starting to fail
3. Low voltage to the headlamp assembly (not likely the battery if only one side flickers)
4. Bad ground to that side.

Eash of these has to be checked as you'll spend a lot of money here if you just "shotgun" replace parts.

Thanks Steve.. I suppose I'll start by looking into bulb, hadn't thought about it being related to a bad ground.

Hi

Did you find the problem?
If so, what was it?

I have the same issue with mine now.

Thanks,

Thomasx

Check out the four causes listed and one of them is the most likely cause. Bulbs would be a good place to start. You could switch the bulbs out side to side and see if the flickering follows. Then you would know it is a bad bulb. If it doesn't change, look into the ballast.

Good luck!
