Vinyl over chrome is pretty common. Whenever people try to modernize their old VWs, BMWs, Volvos, Mercedes with factory chrome trim, they often cover it with black vinyl.

It's amazing how a 1982 Volvo 242 or Rabbit looks like a brand new car once you do cover the factory chrome and put on some wheels from a 1998 or later Volvo or VW. [/sarcasm]

Jeremy, I saw your car driving along 85th (towards the Purple Cafe) for the first time the other day. I'm not normally a fan of huge cartoonish wheels, but I have to say they looked better in person on your car than they do in pictures. It's only from behind you see how much camber is required to get the wheels to fit under the fender arches. Nice job with your mods - even the side vents look more natural in person.

One thing I noticed was the "Brembo decals" on your brake calipers. Did you actually upgrade the calipers, or was it just a decal upgrade?

Thanks Matt. Cartoonish? The current wheels are the multispoke staggered ones and since they are 3-piece style wheels, they look like 19s and look smaller than the Porsche wheels (one piece always looks bigger). I have approximately 2-3 degrees neg camber all around and can drive with all four tires tucked with these wheels/tires.

:-) No personal affront intended. It's just that when I see 20+" wheels on passengers cars tucked under the fenders to fit, it reminds me of cartoons like this: http://images.malaysiaminilover.com/...-drawing-3.jpg or this http://www.duck-design.com/images/CA...toon%20car.jpg Yes, it was the 20" multispoke wheels that I saw. They looked better and more natural than I expected. I knew it was you because of the sports rack on top of the car. ;-)

Is there a "Brembo" brake upgrade for the X-Type, or were those just decals for aesthetics?

Three dimensional decals - several inches long and thick, yes.

I bought mine from ebay because they were cheap. My guess is that minagallery could order factory ones or they have the all chrome ones if you're into that sort of thing.

Exepat... Very tasteful upgrades you have done to your X. A friend of mine has an '02 red 3.0 AWD sport, and I am going to show him the pictures of yours.

BTW, I passed you on the freeway the other day. Actually, you passed me, then I realized that I had seen your car on the forum, so I found an opportunity to catch up to be sure. it was in Totem Lake, S. 405, morning drive time.

Looks very nice... I'm sure we'll see each other again. Not too many of these cars on the road.

Adapters 25mm Front and 30mm rear. I have the 3-piece wheels back on it for Fall with the all-seasons. If it threatens snow - I'll put on the 18x10 Porsche Ultralights with 225/40 snow tires stetched on. Looking forward to AWD with snow tires - if it snows. I'll also add a few PSI to clear the snow.

Thanks. I never know how other Jaguar owners will react to the car (it's usually love/hate, depending on views of modification) - appreciate the positivity. I'm loving the distinctiveness and uniqueness of it - even though it is such a cheap car, people think it's valuable
