Default 2.0 Diesel Engine known issues?

Hello again!

I just bought a 2.0 Diesel XE with 180ps and 40.000km on it from 2016.

Now i heard something about broken down engines in some german forums but i wasnt able to figure out the reason and if there is any kind of indicator for it. I really want the engine to have a long and awesome life so im a little bit worried about it.

Is this a known problem and is there anything i can do to avoid this?

Best regards and thank you in advance!

You may want to post your question on the UK/Eire forum as most members here are from North America where JLR never offered a diesel variant of the X760.

Almost 20k miles so far so good. I'm not sure about Jaguar, but diesel engine should be more reliable than gasoline engine. One of my acquaintances drove his 1984 Mercedes 300SD 999,999 + miles until a whole body was so rusted that it wasn't safe to drive any longer.

Even a modern Mercedes would be pushed to do that sort of mileage.

Petrol Ingenium engines are quite recent, all the first engines were diesels, so Jaguar fitted a Ford petrol engine. All early experience of Ingeniums was therefore with the diesel version. As far as I know, there was a problem with early camchain wear. As the cam drive is at the rear of the engine, replacing the camchain, and maybe the tensioner too, is far more involved as the engine has to be removed first. As you will appreciate, this ups the labour content of the job. However, your car is a 2016, so shouldn't be affected.

I would definitely keep up on oil changes. Have seen two engine that needed replacement. One had the compressor side loosen the nut and seize. Second one had the turbo lock up at bearing area. Im going to assume to coking of oil at bearing causing it to seize up

I am driving a F-pace 2.0L ingenium Diesel in the USA west cost...
it is a USA car, so yes JLR did sell diesel in the USA.

timing chain on all 2.0L ingeniums is a problem up to end of 2021 and fixed (fingers crossed) with an update for 2022 model year.
how do I know? my pre- 2022 F-Pace timing chains failed at 20k miles.
