Smile Engine conversion from petrol to diesel

Hi All,

I'm just wondering whether it is possible to convert an S Type petrol engine with the 2.7 diesel engine. Is it worth the effort or it will be a nightmare?
Why not just buy a diesel? Well the model is not available here. But I think we can get the junkyard to order a half-cut S-Type with a diesel engine for the transplant.
What do you guys think? Just curious.

Thanks to all.

Not viable. Import a diesel, even if that is very hard it will be easier.

A diesel conversion may cost you the price of a late model used car and a big long lasting headache.

Thanks. Guess will stay with the 2.5 petrol until they bring in the diesel model into the country. Enjoying the ride although have to stop at petrol station more frequent as it is constant traffic jam here.

Cheers,

Hey there zyahya....have you considered an LPG ( Liquid Petroleum Gas ) conversion? I'm not sure what the availbility is like in your country, but its pretty widely available here!
The conversion leaves the current petrol set up in place so you can swith between either.
There are even grants available here to convert cars that are considered gas guzzlers to LPG and the costs of filling up / running etc are very very cheap.....just a thought

Hi JimC64,

LPG is available here with limited filling station. Have not heard of anyone who install LPG in a Jaguar and I'm scared to do it as the technology is fairly new here and the installer probably not very knowledgeable. Anywhere you could point me to for more information if I decided to go that path? Be good if someone who has done in for S-Type. It would help with the consumption in town driving with the LPG.

Thanks,

As far as I know, with LPG conversion you will no longer be able to be accepted by ferries, 5 star hotels' parking facilities, some car parking lots .(no problem for open areas though )

Low fuel consuption is a good idea but you should think given all the facts if it's feasible or not . (How many miles you cover per year, how long will you paln to hold the car and such questions liek that )
Because it's a money involving project ,I don't think it will worth the conversion , I address to diesel engine replacement

Back in the 1970s I converted three cars from petrol to diesel. In those days there were no engine control modules, sensors, catalysers, etc. etc. ad nauseam. Even then, by the time you'd done it all it was questionable if you saved any money in the long run.
My advice today? FORGET IT! PDQ. Buy a diesel already.
Leedsman.

May I ask how this was done please? Diesels usually need 15:1 or greater compression ratio to run. How did you achieve this (and keep the engine together)?

I think he'll have swapped the engine

Now you'd need to swap a LOT more. And reprogram the modules or it will go into theft mode.

Default Transplant from petrol to a diesel engine

I have a very good 2005 diesel jaguar s-type but it crashed and also same model petrol the engine is bad so I decided to transplant everythings from the diesel body to petrol one I'm familiar with diy jaguar repair. My question transplant will work don't worry about money I'll be transferring all parts from diesel car to petrol as it is so,
It will work??

to make it functional yes, but depending on emmission testing, the vehicle vin has to match the engine in most areas. That would be an auto fail unless you rebranded the car somehow via local registration authorities. Maybe be able to get some sort of exception. If you have zero rules to follow then you are home free

I think you will run into some serious concerns with the security system. I'm sure you would have to swap over the diesel PCM to match the swapped engine. IIRC, the PCM is tied to the instrument cluster for anti-theft logic. Some reprogramming may be required to get those two units (and possibly others) to communicate properly. Otherwise, the anti-theft function may kick in and not allow the engine to run. I'm not sure how extensive any such reprogramming may be, but its not going to be just plug and play.

oh yeah, forgot about the security. The ecm has to match the instrument cluster module inside the clustrr or be programmed as such
