Default Front Wheel Bearing & Hub Assembly for AWD

2017 XJL 3.0 AWD

Trying to track down a couple of front wheel hubs, as I've got a droning noise up front that is driving me while, but I'm having a heck of a time locating the part:

All the bearing and hub assemblies online all specifically state that they are only for the RWD models.

Does anyone know where I could source the correct wheel hub for the AWD drivetrain?

Thanks,

Eric

I had no luck sourcing an assembly. I bought 510082 bearings, pulled the hub assemblies off the car, and had a local shop press the old ones out and the new ones in.
The axle nuts are intended to be single use and are torqued to something like 300nm, I'd consider replacing them too.

Appreciate the advice.
Finally going to tackle it this weekend, now that I've armed myself with a puller.

Anything you would recommend watching out for along the way?

Eric

Out of curiosity what mileage do you have on your vehicle?

RockAuto has the part. It's listed for the rear, but the front ones are exactly the same. I bought one and will be getting it installed soon. Good luck trying to pull the hub off the axle! I couldn't do it and actually broke my tool, so now I'll be taking it to a garage to get it done. GSP 240002WHInfo

I don't think the front and rear hubs are interchangeable. The rear bearings are 510073 (C2D58913), the front are 510082 (T2H58441). They have different dimensions.
If you pull up Jaguar Parts, there is no part number listed for the AWD hub.

They look identical. I will let you know what happens, but the problem with mine is that two of the studs broke off. If the hub fits the front, I'm going to replace it. If not, I will just get the studs replaced. I will let you know if it fits it looks like it's the same part.

Since you have some broken wheel studs we did have a thread to find out exactly what wheel stud is needed. Turns out again a common Ford part is the exactly the same.

Thanks again to those who contributed to finding these numbers out!

Thanks I've already purchased the parts. I have both the individual studs and a complete wheel hub assembly, so I'll be replacing either just the studs or the entire hub.

I'll keep you posted on how it goes.
When you say that you couldn't get the hub off the axle, do you mean getting halfshaft out (first), or trying to pull the hub from the knuckle and halfshaft in one go?

I have a hub puller, but balked at getting the shaft removal tool.
If I can't get the shaft out I'll probably spring for the shaft removal tool, and am happy to run it up the road to you if it all works out. (I'm Burlington).

Did you get the hub and knuckle, or just the hub? If it's just the hub, I'd appreciate the part number. Ideally I would have just got the hub and pressed it in rather than also have to mess around with the bearings and the old hub.

This is not a DIY job, it has to be taken to a shop. The only way to get the wheel hub and bearing out is with a press. You can try using hub puller tools all you want, but they won't work. The hub I bought from RockAuto wasn't the right size the front hub is a bit bigger so we just replaced the studs on the original hub. Why do you want to replace your hubs? You only need to replace the bearings, as the hubs themselves don't go bad. I bought my bearing from Amazon, but they are also sold on RockAuto. And once you remove the hub you have to replace the bearing because it gets damaged.

Was just curious if it came as a hub, as I'm more confident pressing hubs in than risking the bearings.

In any case, it's DIY, but you do need to have both the tools and the patience on hand:

Had to pay the Canadian Car tax early on - tie rod nut had fused completely and required the angle grinder to remove. If you're doing this be careful of the threads else you'll be replacing a tie rod as well. Some judicious use of the grinder followed by hammer and chisel removed the last bits and saved the threads.

Heeding the advice earlier about not being able to get the CV out, I did get the JLR-205-857 axle puller, but it was more dangerous than anything else on a car not on a four point lift - with a 24mm wrench and 36" bar, and a 1" wrench braced on a 4x4 block to the floor I was actually lifting the car off the stands and blocks (I use 8x8 blocks here and there for safety).

Air hammer into the groove on the CV axle and some mild persuasion with a 4lb moved the CV out. Needed a little touch up with the thread chaser but all good.

The hub was a touch stubborn, but nothing out of the ordinary and moved via impact on the hub puller (
this style from Amazon this style from Amazon
).

Bearing removal was harder than it needed be as my biggest collar on the bearing kit was essentially the same size as the hub, so it was almost like pressing in the bearing from hub to hub, instead of out. 3/4 drive helped with this.
I'm in the market for a larger hub and bearing kit.

New bearing went in with minimal fuss (ensure you are seating it with the magnetic ring facing inward - you can test with bolt or nail and they will grab on the correct side).

Only odd thing was that the bearings are not seated all the way into the hub to the back of the lip like you would expect. The old one had perhaps a 3/16 gap and the new one only pressed that far as well (there is no raised ridge, but the bearing bottomed out like a tapered bearing and won't go further). It does seem to line up with where the sensor plugs in.

So I have seated it to match the one that came out and left well enough alone.

I've typically held to replacing hubs and bearings in pairs, but I will say that it is enough of a struggle that I think I will leave it for now. If it really irks me in the next couple of weeks I'll break down and grab a 7 ton press from Amazon (~$150 CAD) or hit Princess Auto for an entry level one to do the other side.
