Hello I have a 2017 Jaguar XE v6 awd.. my brother made the mistake to add coolant but didn’t put the cap back on and I drove away like that. It died on me. I added more coolant and put the cap back on. Waited a couple of hours for it to cool off but didn’t wanted to start. It was cranking with a low battery sign because I had the blinkers on for like an hour but didn’t start. I’m going to try use cables with my friends truck and try again. Do y’all think it can be a bigger issue?
Im just worried I messed up the engine.
Is there a protection on the car that shuts it off? Can I reset that? Any help is appreciated.

 

The AJ126 does not like to be overheated as the head(s) and or block warp causing the head gasket(s) to fail.

Charge the battery, refill the cooling system with DEXCOOL, and start the engine. It would be a good idea to purchase a tester to determine if there are exhaust gases entering the cooling system. If there are, the head gasket(s) failed.

There is no mechanism or system to shut off the engine if it overheats.

You could be lucky and it was only coolant spraying out of the reservoir that drowned the electrics and killed the engine. As long as coolant was circulating, you should have got away without a critical overheat situation.

Thank you Graham. Yes all the coolant just sprayed out. I’m waiting on my friend to try and jump start. Hopefully it’s just that and not like a head gasket or something

 

There are small devices, hand held size which are battery chargers. They’re good in a pinch and you can keep them in your car and use it in case you’re in need of a jump. Time to detail the engine bay too? 😀
