Default 2018 XE will get 380HP and 2.0L V4

The 2018 Jaguar XE S Makes 380 Horsepower, Is Out for 3 Series Blood

"Jaguar also announced a new base engine for the XE, XF, and F-Pace. It's a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder good for 247-horsepower. Developed in-house, it offers a seven-horsepower increase over the outgoing 25t engine."

If the only difference is a different body kit, painted (but otherwise identical) brake calipers, and +40PS it seems hardly worth the premium over the 35t... for $1000 you could tune the 35t to well beyond 380PS and have an otherwise mechanically identical car to the XE S...

now, if it gets some suspension goodies and a limited slip differential (as the F-Type S does), it might be worth taking seriously.

have to admit though if I were in the market again it'd be hard to turn down the the S myself

Same could be said for picking R-Sport over premium :P

I drove the Australian XE S (which has the 340hp engine) on a track and loved it but thought it could use a touch more at the top end, as in over 180kph. But then the other cars I drove that day were all 5 litre supercharged.

Supposedly in the f type there is no difference in the 0 - 60mph times between the 340hp and the 380hp, it is all over 60mph (though I think Jag quote a minor difference of a few tenths of a second).

Not so much since R has different interior detailing and some difference on exterior as well.

If the XE-S got the switchable exhaust from the F-Type, that would be more than enough to convince me to get one over the 35T R-Sport.

But I've not seen any mention of exhaust changes for the XE-S, so I'm guessing it get's the same boring exhaust as the lesser models?

What is really interesting is when will it get the V8. Because the thing is, it already has a V8. The 3.0SC V6, is literally made from a V8 block. I don't mean that it is bored differently into the same block, I mean it literally is a V8 block. There is a blanking plate in the crank-case for the rear 2 cylinder bores. A different cylinder head is fitted which doesn't have the rear 2, and a shorter blower. There are counter-weights fitted to the crank where the rear two rods would connect, to balance the engine. The exhaust manifold is dimensionally identical from front to back, again just missing the rear cylinders. So the downpipes on a V6 and V8 FType are the same, for example.

So hypothetically speaking, one could take a V6 XE, pull the engine and put a V8 crank, head, charger etc. into it, or actually it would be 10x easier just to get a V8 engine and drop it straight in. It would be a straight fit-up, with a couple fiddly things to check up on but it would bolt straight in.

So... you think the XE is fast with a VelocityAP 420BHP tune, or even with a 453BHP Crank Pulley? Try a 575BHP SVR spec V8 - then add our 605BHP V8 tune, or a crank pulley and tune at 640BHP.

The best part? Virtually no weight added, just the extra weight of the larger blower. If you look at the FType weights, I think the V6 base coupe, with the lowest weight is only about 85kg lighter than the V8 Convertible, which is the heaviest.

So now the question is - who wants to send us their car and have this monster built?

And the only

I want to see a coupe version of the XE with a V8 if possible. Could you imagine that 575BHP against the M series BMW's?

It would be pretty sweet. The best part is, it is not a super-challenging build.

Some time ago I went on Ebay and looked up some used V8 and V6 motors for sale and they have all the pics listed and you can clearly see all the things you mentioned. I hear Volvo practices this as well with the motors.

Interestingly, we also noted that the ports on the head are exactly the same as the Ford. 5.0 Coyote Engine, although the bold locations are different.
