Default 2021 XE: "New software downloaded and ready" - but won't install

I recently acquired a 2021 XE, and I have been trying to update the software however it never seems to install.
It regularly pops up "New software downloaded and ready" and I have tried both the "Update Now" and "Schedule" options several times, however it never updates.
I ensure all the windows are up, etc. exit the car and double-lock it, however when I check the next day the software is still the old version from February.
Any ideas?

I might be wrong about this, but I think updates only install if the ignition is on and, since the ignition will shut down within about 10 minutes if the engine isn't running, this means only if the engine is running.
Try initiating the update install when you're about to go on a bit of a run in the car.

Thanks for the reply. The message on the display is:
"Vehicle software update did not install. Update failed because the vehicle was not secure. To allow the update to install, ensure the vehicle is locked and alarmed.
New software downloaded and ready. Good news! Latest software updates have been downloaded to your vehicle. Your vehicle needs to switch to the new software. You will not be able to use the vehicle during the update. Side and hazard lights will also be disabled.
Estimated installation time: 0h 45 min. For more information refer to Software Updates within settings"

I exit the car each time, ensuring the windows are fully up, and I double-press the lock button on the remote key to set the alarm.
However when I start the car up several hours later, I still get this 'update failed' message.
