Was there any mention yet as to whether or not the XE-S will get the switchable active exhaust?

 

spectre, when I was looking over the XE, I did not notice the active exhaust. Granted, I also was not looking specifically for it. Honestly, I don't think it is going to get it as this car is going to loose some of the "hot rodder" features that you might find on the higher end cars. With that being said, I am sure you could wire it up in your car and simply have it activate using a switch on the dash or the like.

 

I hope it does, though I have to say the exhaust of the one we saw testing on the 'ring sounded pretty damn good.

 

V6 scream or V8 growl ya think?

 

Definitely had to be the V6, sounded different than my XF's though.

 

I hope, and actually think, that the V6 "S" will have an active exhaust.

 

You don't need active exhaust to get that loud, popping, snarling, growling exhaust note. I drove all the F-Type variants before deciding to purchase the base F-Type V6 without active exhaust. To my ears, the basic sport exhaust (without the openable valves) was considerably louder than F-Types with active exhaust off. To me, the base F-Type exhaust sounds (all the time) about the same as active exhaust V6 cars with the valves open.

Not many seem to be aware of this because the vast majority of U.S. F-Types are ordered by both dealers and buyers with active exhaust, even as an option on base cars. Perhaps that's a secret that JLR doesn't want getting out.

However, I suspect the V6 will be quieted down in the XE because it seems aimed at a different demographic. My wife is interested in the XE when she's ready to buy early next year, but she thinks my car is way too loud.
