Default any idea how this happens inside a touchless carwash?

This is a newer touchless carwash at Kwik Trip here in town. I have used it many times with my other car. My XE is all of 5 days old with less than 500 miles on it. The picture in the link is not dirt or something that got sprayed on the car. These are all spots where the paint chipped. It's almost like it was spraying rocks at the car. This is the only spot on the car that this happened. I have filled out paperwork for them to make a claim on this.

As if that wasn't enough, as I was pulling forward in the wash bay (driving forward from the wash to the dryer) I noticed a large chunk of metal in front of me to the right hand side a bit I was trying to balance between not running this over and not getting my rims to touch the sides of the "ramps" (not sure of the proper term) that the car's wheels sit in while being washed. Well both rims rubbed and scraped paint off and scratched the rims almost half way around the entire rim. I didn't even know they hit until later when I was home. Rims were painted black by the dealer and I do have the wheel and tire protection in the event that they deny the claim. I went back to Kwik Trip a few hours later to file the claim and the chunk of metal was still in the wash bay, but more in the middle now. A worker went in and grabbed it out. Looked like it was a taillight assembly with chrome around it. I'm wondering if whatever happened to my car also ripped this part of that car off. Strange and disappointing day.

Looks like sandblasting.

Sorry to hear that happened to you, I would take it to a paint shop and pay them to provide a letter to you stating the likely cause and and estimate to fix. From there, based on what they say, talk to the car wash owner or your insurance.

That sucks! Your odds of getting cars wash to pony up are worse than winning the lottery. It appears to be in front of rear wheel? The exact spot where road debri would impact from front tire. Not sure if this is car wash created or road rash due to the location. Good luck and keep us posted.

Carpenter75, sorry to see you got this damage to your car. As 1 of 19 mentioned above, I really think you have the known road rash issue from the front wheels spraying debris to that panel just in front of the rear wheels. The pattern is exactly what I personally saw starting to happen on my XE where it hits the part that flares out but then you don't see much where it becomes parallel with the wheel.

I quickly ordered and installed mud flaps/splash guards, buffed out what I could with rubbing compound and installed paint protection film for additional protection.

There's some discussion here about it:

I'm sure you can find more posts on this subject too.

I remember seeing the film being an option that can be bought from Jaguar although I really think they should be installing by default with this design. I purchased mine online from a 3M film supplier that was pre-cut. It was a little tricky to install but it's stayed on for 10 months so far.

I know these comments are a little bit like closing the gate after the horse has bolted but I recommend adding the protection if you have the panels refinished.

It definitely does look like that might be the case as it doesn't seem to extend past the flare out. The other side is perfect though so that's what seems odd. There isn't a single mark on the other side. It has only been driven on the highway (never gravel) for 400 miles and that's it. Thanks for the link! Definitely seems to be a problem. I'll take that to Jaguar and see if they will be willing to cover the cost of repainting.
