When you switch your drive selector (below the gear selector) to "Race/Dynamic" mode, your steering weight and speed changes significantly. It becomes heavier.

OK. All cars nowadays have something similar. It doesn't seem to impact road feel though.

Based on my drive of the XE S, the Jaguar's steering is the best that I have experienced (among currently sold cars). Not as good as my 2003 BMW (which was hydraulic) but much better than my 2015 BMW.

Expensive I think is why. Lotus is still using it and they care about weight.

Also probably makes it harder to implement various self-driving features.

I remember reading that electric power steering marginally improves the fuel economy. If I remember correctly, it's due to hydraulic steering pump being parasitic. It is powered by engine thus negatively affects the performance.
