Default Puck vs Gear Stick

I would like to know your opinion on the retractable gear selector that is incorporated in all modern Jags . I call it "puck" , somewhat must be due to my being a hockey fan, but honestly I liked to use the J gate in pre Tata Jaguars .
However, I know it is very outdated against today's modern tranny selectors but I would like to have what F Type uses in all other Jaguars
What do you guys think about when it comes to gear selectors, a puck or something more subtle like F Type's

It's hard to say because my current car is the only auto I have ever owned. I do like the hockey puck though. Given that for most journeys I only touch it once it hardly seems worth a lavish lever.

The puck takes up far less room, looks better than a stick and is fun to watch move. The paddles are effective gear selectors when the mood strikes. Of course, no auto can replace a great manual but it's what we've got to work with. No denying good auto's are faster though, even if they aren't as engaging.

I like the look and the way it rises and falls but in practice I find it is slower to use when changing from forward to reverse ( if you are in a hurry when trying to park or doing a hasty 3-point turn ) and also on start up you need to wait momentarily for it to rise before using it.

Yes, had it now in 2 XFs, the XKR, and the XE. It is really much better than the stick for the auto (and ***** all over the stupid column shifts in the Benzes), particularly given that you have the paddles for "manual" changes. It allows for a much better feeling of space in the centre.

The F Type doesnt have the puck, of course. Maybe something more phallic was needed for the sports car. But the stick in that is interesting to use, you tip it forward and backward to engage drive etc, but it goes back to the centre. So it isnt a traditional auto shifter at all.

You need the stick only if you don't have paddle shifters. Otherwise the stick serves no purpose other than to add ugliness to the interior.

The only attraction for me at this point is that it rises and falls (a neat novelty)...
