i was very excited to find this thread, but it doesn't answer the question. I also think there are too many definitions of ”beeps, ” although ”2 beeps” is the first think I thought of. However, in my case, the two beeps are not regular beeps. They are more like horn beeps - they are not the sound that is made when you honk the horn though - more like the type of sound you might hear if you try to lock the door with the key in the car. In my case, the two beeps sound much more like the Roadrunner - ”meep keep.” This is more like the horn of a Japanese car from the 1970’s. It is not a seatbelt, speed camera, AEB, etc. I think I heard this sound when I tried to lock the car and the trunk wasn't closed all the way.

Anyone?

I came to this thread also trying to solve this mystery with our newly-acquired 2018 XE-S. You guys have given me some things to watch for and I will pay more attention to my surroundings when it happens. It does seem to happen at very specific places though, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out, thanks the ideas shared here. If I positively identify the culprit, I'll post back.

It's the camera detection notification from the nav. Should be under navigation options to turn it off.

Ha ha, I was just going to post that, RoverJoe. My wife sent me a text this morning (I told her to have the nav on when hitting the area where it beeps) and she said it said something like "Safety red light camera."

How cool is that? I've never even heard of that feature before.

They still run it on the new cars, my work Fpace does it.

One odd 'feature' of our infotainment systems is all the volumes adjust from the normal control when in use, for example if your parking sensors are beeping, you can just use the normal volume control to make them louder or softer. I had a customer with an Ftype years back reporting a very loud double beep randomly happening. They must have been cranking the volume up right as that notification happened, because that double beep was played at nearly max volume, it was a startlingly loud noise when it happened. There is no way to 'turn it back down' unless you also are adjusting the volume right as it happens. I ended up doing a software update to the IMC to get it to reset all the volume levels to normal.

While it appears you have solved your mystery, in case anyone has a steady beeping and you can’t find the source, it could be the battery in a toll-road transponder telling you it (the transponder) needs replacing. Don’t ask how I know.
